May I deduct gifts on my income tax return?

Yes I can take a charitable deduction for gifts to so-called exempt organizations that is a charity that has been recognized and qualified under section 501 c 3 of the federal tax law. Examples would be your church, an educational institution, public television, the united way. Those are all tax deductible gifts for income tax purposes. But gifts to individuals cannot be deducted from your income tax. There are many ways to make these kinds of charitable gifts usually outright in cash but oftentimes they're gifts of appreciated property
